Message from the Chair
Dear Volunteers, Supporters and Friends of Southern Rhode Island Volunteers,
As your Chairman of the Board of Directors, I'd like to thank all of you for your energy and commitment. Without you, SRI Volunteers would be unable to continue making a difference in our community. These are challenging times for all non-profit agencies, but I am looking forward to the coming year with high hopes and great expectations. There are several important efforts underway that will strengthen SRI Volunteers. Let me tell you about a couple of them.
We recently completed a Capacity Building initiative that was funded by the New Roots organization. This initiative brings us advice and consultation with experts in fund raising, marketing and organizational sustainability. We have learned a lot and believe that what we have learned will be extremely valuable to SRIV.
We are also in the process of obtaining additional office space in the Charlestown Community Center in Ninigret Park. We will continue to operate our Independent Aging Programs out of our existing office at the Center in South Kingstown, while some of our Volunteer recruiting efforts and administrative functions will relocate to the new Charlestown location. We are looking forward to a wonderful partnership with the Town of Charlestown.
As always, with your help, we are working every day to make a difference in our own backyard. Our volunteers are coordinating food delivery from the Jonnycake Center to elderly and disabled clients, coordinating delivery of Meals On Wheels and daily safety checks for our homebound frail elders and disabled adult neighbors, and through SRIV's partnership with the Animal Rescue League food for the family pet. SRIV's telephone lines are busy as SRIV's staff arranges transportation to medical appointments for our homebound elderly and disabled neighbors. SRIV's staff fields more and more requests for volunteer support to more than 100 social service agencies, schools and non-profits assisting thousands of our neighbors throughout Southern Rhode Island supporting community needs as varied as education support, community food pantries, homeless shelters, the environment, animal rescue, the arts, elder independence support, and much, much more!
