Southern Rhode Island Volunteers

Southern Rhode Island Volunteers’ mission is to enhance lives by inspiring, creating and supporting a lifelong culture of service through our volunteer members and affiliates across Southern Rhode Island.

Current Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities January 2026 Welcome new year and new opportunities. Is your resolution to be more active, to be more involved in your community? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Always a priority at SRIV are helping with the needs of our older neighbors (60 plus years of age).

Transportation to support healthy aging at SRIV is providing a ride to and from medical appointments including dentists, therapies, and pharmacies to support healthy aging.

This is a very flexible opportunity. You can choose the geographic communities/area you wish to serve, days, times—there’s no schedule that you must follow.

Staff communicates by email and phone calls to let you know current needs available to be a champion for a mature neighbor. You choose to accept the current needs or not based upon your availability and desire to help. You may choose to do one or more or none in any given week—it’s up to you. You’ll be joining a team of volunteers who need flexibility but wish to make a difference. There are between 100 and 130 times each month available to lend a helping hand by providing a ride.

Delivery of groceries and/or food from area pantries and/or grocery stores to ensure healthy nutrition and food security at SRIV means once a week you may help by delivering groceries to a homebound older citizen. Thursday mornings is a weekly delivery day from some area markets; our volunteers pickup and deliver food to 1 to 3 older citizen homes, delivery routes depend on volunteer goals and availability; grocery orders and deliveries are coordinated from our office. There are also pickup and deliveries from area markets at other times and from area food panties on designated days/times at the pantry. These are curbside pickups and delivery to the older citizen home. Regular and substitute volunteers are always welcome for this service.

Meals on Wheels SRIV is looking for someone to help count the meals received by the MOW caterer as a sub position. Meals come in to our South Kingstown location Monday through Thursday, we’d like to add a volunteer to cover for our regular volunteers from time to time. Also available are sub positions to deliver the meals to the older citizen clients Monday through Thursday mornings. Again, at SRIV we are always flexible to meet the need of our volunteers and our older neighbors. Flexibility, training and more. Call SRIV for details.

Companion Volunteers SRIV is always open to volunteers wishing to visit once or twice a week with a homebound older citizen. Call the office for details. Ask for Jessen.

SRIV Support Volunteers SRIV is looking for individuals who wish to make a difference supporting all the direct services from behind the scenes or in a leadership capacity. Beginning for July, 2026, we will be looking for board members who enhance our current team, 2 positions will be available. SRIV also is welcoming individuals wishing to serve on a committee Development & Operations meets by zoom on the first Monday of the month 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Two new volunteers would be welcomed on this committee. Strategy & Finance is looking to welcome one new volunteer to that committee.

Office support volunteer positions and sub positions are open for 2026. These positions might include telephone outreach to older citizens, data entry, projects and events. For information contact the office and ask for Lindsay or Deb.

Volunteers for leadership positions are interviewed and invited to sit in for a meeting prior to placement on any committee; there is a process for the Board of Directors as well. For more information contact Lindsay Bush, Executive Director

Area Partner Needs RICAN food pantry is always looking for volunteers to help in the thrift shop. There is a need especially Saturday at this time. The thrift shop is open Monday through Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.

Tabitha’s Closet welcomes volunteers to join their team. Opportunities include Tuesdays 3 to 5 pm to help sort clothing donations; Fridays 3 to 5 pm to help rack those clothing donations; and Saturdays 9 to 1 pm to help with customer service and sales of the clothing.

Interested in delivering Meals on Wheels in the Richmond, Hopkinton and Westerly areas, contact us to be connected to Meals on Wheels of RI for those areas.

Jamestown Coast Mobile welcomes volunteer drivers to support island older citizens. This group operates through the Jamestown Fire Department.

We hope to meet you soon and welcome you to the team!
