Volunteer Opportunities Spring and Summer:

Exciting and fun opportunities to volunteer in your community this summer 2025!

New Request: Narragansett-volunteers are needed to walk a dog for a senior resident with physical limitations. This wonderful canine is a great companion and is good with everyone. Our senior needs help to walk him on Wednesday afternoons and at different times on Thursdays.

Summer festival requests:

August 1 to August 3 : Seafood Festival Event in Ninigret Park, Charlestown. SRIV is looking for volunteers to help us staff the exit gate. The task is to ask if guests are returning on the same day and to put a wristband on them. Shifts are: Friday, August 1st 7-10 pm for 2 volunteers; Saturday. August 2nd 6:30 to 10 pm for 1 volunteer; and Sunday, August 3rd 10:30 am to 2 pm for 2 volunteers, 2 to 5:30 pm for 2 volunteers; and 5:30 to 8:30 pm for 2 volunteers. Volunteers work a 4 hour shift and get free entry to the festival on the day you work, a SFF tee shirt and bottled water is supplied.

August 13 to August 17 : Washington County Fair, Richmond. SRIV is looking for volunteers to help at the Pomona Kitchen booth to work the windows, taking orders for food. Shifts are: 11 am to 3 pm on Thursday, August 14th, Saturday, August 16th and Sunday, August 17th; 3 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 13th every day through Sunday, August 17th; and 7 to 11 pm for Thursday, August 14th through Saturday, August 16th. Volunteers work a 4 hour shift, receive a ticket to the fair for that day for volunteering and get to order a meal at the end of their shift at the Pomona Kitchen!

August 10, 2025 Duffle Bag Bash-supporting Adoption RI—-volunteers are needed to help direct parking in a field at the event which is held in Matunuck, RI. Hours are 10 am to 2:30 pm. Volunteers are invited to get lunch at the event from the caterer.

CRITICAL NEED: Transportation to and from: medical appointments

  • dentists

  • therapies

  • pharmacies

This is a very flexible opportunity. You can choose the geographic communities/area you wish to serve, days, times—there’s no schedule.

When a need arises, you’d get an email first with a list of needs to choose 1 or a couple that you’d like to help with. If time is getting close, you’d receive a call based on your preferences and if you’re available, great-if not, we’ll call you another time.

Delivery of groceries once a week is another way to help a homebound senior. Thursday mornings is delivery day from some major markets when our volunteers deliver to 2 to 4 senior homes their weekly groceries; other times include individual pick-ups and deliveries which work the same way as medical transportation scheduling does. We could use some volunteers willing to sub for this opportunity when regularly scheduled volunteers have to be out.

Southern RI Volunteers has opportunities for volunteers on our committees too!. We welcome enthusiastic and fun folks to join our development team. Members on this team are engaged in tasks that interest them. That could mean they help to plan or execute events, they help to plan marketing and outreach, education opportunities for individuals to learn about SRIV’s services and opportunities. Our team meets by zoom currently the meeting is the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm for 1 hour to discuss, develop and work one of two annual SRIV events, summer community events, SRIV outreach and ways to share SRIV’s mission, volunteer and client stories to educate our neighbors across our southernmost 12 communities in RI.

Join our dedicated and fun Development & Marketing committee—to learn more, contact Deb at SRIV. Leave your name and number at 401-552-7661 or email info@southernrivol.org.

We also welcome individuals to our finance and operations committee. Our finance volunteers oversee monthly financial reporting, our operations volunteers consider services offered, other services that may be a good fit for SRIV and community needs. Our Finance & Operations committee meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month by zoom at 5:30 pm for approximately 1 1/2 hours. To learn more, contact Lindsay at SRIV. Leave your name and number at 401-552-7661 or email info@southernrivol.org.

Meals on Wheels How about being a volunteer “sub”. Be on our call list to see if you might occasionally be available to deliver meals on wheels in the South Kingstown, Narragansett and Exeter areas. This is only an occasional opportunity or a sub opportunity for a regular volunteer who is away for any length of time.

SRIV also recruits volunteers for the Charlestown RI meals on wheels route. At this time, Charlestown is all set. SRIV also partners with Meals on Wheels of RI for the routes in Richmond, Hopkinton and Westerly. Subs are always in need.

RICAN food pantry is looking for volunteers to help in the thrift shop. There is a need especially on Tuesday and Saturday at this time.

Hoping to met you soon and welcome you to the team.

SRIV can be reached at 401-552-7661 Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm or by email at info@southernrivol.org.
